The 24-year-old forward shone in League Two with Wimbledon a few years ago, earning himself a move to the Tractor Boys, and has since played in both the Championship and League One.
It became clear that he would be available this summer following Ipswich’s promotion to the top flight, and despite interest from elsewhere, Wednesday have no announced that they’re the ones to have captured his signature.
“What people are getting is a really hungry Ali at this moment. I’m feeling the best I’ve felt physically and mentally for a long time. You can expect someone who gives their all and wears a heart on their sleeve.
“I was impressed by the manager’s attention to detail, his human nature of how he gets you as a person. That’s part of it sometimes, just having a good connection with the manager… I’ve always had a good relationship with fans, I’m someone who gets it and tries to buy into the team and the culture of the club, that’s the sort of person I am.
“I’m honestly really, really delighted to be here. You can’t pass up an opportunity to play for a club like this. It seems in a really good place from top to bottom, so a perfect time.”
Meanwhile, the club’s Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, added, “Ali is an exciting, athletic forward whose aggressive pressing and ability to run in behind will add another dimension to the team. He enjoyed a rapid rise at Wimbledon, quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young forwards in the EFL before earning a move to Ipswich, where he was part of the team that won promotion to the Premier League.
“Since then, Ali has gained valuable experience in the Championship and at international level, continuing to develop his all-round game. That progression was evident in a series of positive performances at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
“Our references on Ali have been extremely strong, particularly around his character and mentality. We believe he will fit really well into our dressing room and the culture we are building at the training ground, and we are delighted to welcome him to Hillsborough.”
