'Feel the buzz...' - Sheffield Wednesday confirm 10th arrival of the summer

As predicted by The Wednesday Word, Sheffield Wednesday have snapped up a new goalkeeper - Connal Trueman.

TWW reported earlier today that the Owls were keen on wrapping up a deal that would see the 30-year-old make the move to Hillsborough, and now it’s been confirmed that he’s penned a one-year contract at S6, with a further option.

Trueman is the first of two new goalkeepers through the door after Joe Lumley, with this publication also understanding that Ashley Maynard-Brewer is closing in on a switch to South Yorkshire as well.

Having left MK Dons at the end of last season, Trueman joins Wednesday to fight for his place alongside the other shot-stoppers, with suggestions being that Lumley is currently seen as Henrik Pedersen’s first choice.

Speaking to the club’s website, Trueman said, “It's a massive club, and at the moment especially it feels like a really good time to be here… I think you can really feel the buzz around the place and you can feel there is the start of a new chapter, a new era, and I’m buzzing to be here and be a part of that.

“We are going to go for promotion this year, that’s what it’s all about, so anytime that’s dangled in front of you, it’s really, really exciting.”

Meanwhile, the club’s Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, added, “Connal is a player that we are familiar with and he arrives with terrific references on and off the pitch - he is a talented goalkeeper and another great character to add to the group.

“He was part of a promotion-winning team last year and understands the daily standard required to be successful. We are delighted to welcome him to Sheffield Wednesday and add him to our squad ahead of the new season.”

Wednesday are far from finished in the transfer market, with a host of other new signings being worked on by the recruitment team. Maynard-Brewer could be the next through the door, while there’s also believed to have been progress made regarding the acquisition of Mason Burstow on loan from Hull City.
