Some have celebrated the removal of the huge Sheffield Wednesday badge that has stood outside Hillsborough for a decade, but it also comes with an element of sadness.
It would be lovely to see the 1950s badge given another rework to differentiate it slightly from the one under the previous owner. This could then be used on merch, to create a different line of clothing for instance. Some
time in the future, and certainly not a priority now.
I think this would be a small token and be well received, especially, given the passage of time, and could signify “claiming back” that particular insignia.
Totally agree with you Joe. I grew up with the original crest and feel quite sad it is being stripped from the club. When the ‘iconic owl’ was introduced I always believed it was a badge while the original still remained as the formal club crest. I may have just dreamt it though. In all honesty I love both but such a shame to lose over 100 years of history.
I love the badge we’ve gone back to but equally I love this one too. It will always be part of our history good and bad. One of the graphic design chaps posted something on X a while ago describing it as more of a club emblem which I liked the idea of. Tainted for many but not for me. Keeps a tattoo on my arm relevant too 😅
Fair summary Joe. Although I love the 1970s Owl and I’m glad we’re going back to it, i have a retro striped shirt from the early sixties (from The Old Football Shirt company TOFS) that someone bought me well before Chancer took over. It has the 1950s crest (similar to Chancer’s but without the demon eyes) and I find it sad that he’s tainted it with his idiotic behaviour. As you say, hopefully time will heal.
Always loved the original crest. The way it looks on those white 1966 cup final shirts is mint. Actually preferred it to the 70s owl. But it’s ruined now. It will be a long time before it’s not linked to the former owner and that’s a huge shame. It’s part of the history of the club and not just the last ten years.
There’s no evidence that this was created in the 50’s. The nearest version appears in the fa cup final programme and then again on the front of The Owl matchday programme in 1973.

100%.
Love the “old” crest. Has a feeling of tradition about it. Sorry to see it condemned in such a way.

I don’t think we should let MrC take our history away. I agree for every day the simple owl is good, but we should be able to use the original.

I prefer the original. Chansiri’s only good decision? Least of the clubs worries though. We have a club to rebuild in all respects.
“Makes the tattoo on my arm relevant again” 😀
😅
NnnlQuite

Oh really? The club spoke about it as the 1950s badge.
It appears on the photos of Catterick resigning in 1961
The one with him walking out the south stand with his coat? Different version if so
