Goals from Derensili Sanches Fernandes and Joe Taylor looked to have given the home side all three points at Accu Stadium in what was a largely disappointing display from the Owls, but a late flourish from the visitors saw the game end 2-2.
An own goal from Ibane Bowat got the ball rolling for Wednesday, before Jamal Lowe slotted home from the spot to make it seven goals in all competitions and make sure the travelling Wednesdayites could go home with a smile on their face.
As you can imagine, the two managers were in very different moods after the final whistle, but even after the fightback Henrik Pedersen wasn’t pleased with a lot of what he’d seen. Here’s a bit of what both bosses had to say…
Martin Drury
“I’m just perplexed at the way it materialised. For no foul to be given - and not seconds later, but minutes later, a penalty to be given - I’ve not seen that at this level.
“So, there’s quite a few things today that I found really difficult to take from their side and the penalty decision and that whole scenario is one that’s very, very confusing.
“But I’ll not say too much on it because we live in a world where you give an opinion on it, and then suddenly you end up in trouble. My wife and kids need my money, so I’m not going to give it to them. It is a shame. How it came about and the two-minute wait was bizarre.
“But we need to get better at first and foremost. I won’t use the referees or officiating as an excuse. We have to win that game of football. But I’m filled with belief that we played against a team that many have said is going to be a title contender.”
Henrik Pedersen
“The first half was unacceptable, but the second was much better… I think we played a strong, strong second half. We created more good chances, and I think the mentality we showed in finding a way to make it 1-2 and then score the penalty in the end was very deserving of a point.
“I think Huddersfield were better than us in the first half. I think we gave them a present at the beginning of the second half, but from there, I think we were the strongest team.
“We were not good enough in the first half, but in the second half, we saw much more of the Sheffield Wednesday team that we want to be in the future, with a much more dynamic game on the ball, many more crosses and many more situations in which we had players on the ball.
“With this mentality, we always believe we can get something, and we always look for a way to get it.”
