Like so many of his young teammates at Hillsborough, Emery was thrust into a difficult environment amidst protests and administration takeover talk. In a normal season he’d have spent his time playing for the U21s, but in the Owls’ 2025/26 season of turmoil he was called upon to help the cause.

“It’s difficult to get your head around, really,” he said, speaking to The Wednesday Word. “You still can’t quite believe it when you’re playing a Championship game, or when you’ve played a couple of games for the senior side. But it was all a great experience - it was amazing to be out there, to have the opportunity and to play as many games as I did. I’m just very grateful.”
