The former Wednesday midfielder was placed in interim charge of first-team affairs following Henrik Pedersen’s sacking.
It was just over two months ago that Hamshaw joined Wednesday’s coaching staff. When asked if he has been given any indication on when a new manager will be appointed, Hamshaw replied: “I’m in charge until a new manager is appointed. It’s a huge honour for me to do it and step up.
“The powers that be will make those decisions and I’m sure you’ll probably be at first to know when something changes. But as we stand at this moment in time, I just keep trying to do the job, keep putting a team out there that can be competitive. I thought we had had a bit more of that kind of Wednesday, get at them a little bit more today, but that needs to be a lot more consistent.”
Hamshaw said it was a ‘surprise’ when he received the call to take charge of the team following Pedersen’s dismissal. “I didn’t see it coming; I thought it might have been a bit longer but that’s not my decision, that’s just my personal decision,” he said. “The board made the decision.
“The owner here is fantastic. Michael and David (Storch) have done unbelievable things here already. You’ve only got to look around Hillsborough…I remember coming here last year and there was no running water in the North Stand.
“We are developing as a football club but you can’t instantly click your fingers and things happen overnight. We would all like it to but it will take a bit of a time.”
Regardless of who comes in to replace Pedersen, Hamshaw has expressed his desire to remain part of Wednesday’s backroom team.
“Henrik kind of brought me here, but I’d like to think I’m a club appointment so I’d like to think I’d stay,” he said. “However, I’m not naive enough to think that football changes and managers may come in and see it differently.
“So, look, it is what it is, but it’s not about me. It’s about this club getting the right man in charge, whoever the board of directors feel that may be. Everybody coming together and then hitting our goals and targets that we need to.”
