'It’s a special club' - Why Max Lowe agreed to join Sheffield Wednesday's League One fight
Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Max Lowe has committed his future to the club with a new contract.
The Wednesday Word reported recently that Lowe, who has become a very popular figure at Hillsborough since his arrival, had agreed terms on a new deal with the Owls, and now it has been announced that he’s officially put pen to paper.
Speaking after signing his one-year deal, with an extra year’s option, he told the club, “I can’t wait. It’s been hectic, but I’m delighted to get this sorted as quickly as we could. A lot of people behind the scenes have worked really hard and I’m delighted it’s all come together at the right time.
“The fans have been great with me since day one and I’m loving the support – I can only thank them. It’s no secret that it was a special day against West Brom, and I said how I felt after the game. It’s a special club and I felt like that was just a teaser of what’s to come.”
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, added “We are delighted to retain Max and welcome him back to Sheffield Wednesday ahead of pre-season. We believe he is above the level and that’s a view shared by the many Championship clubs that he attracted offers from this summer.
“It’s a testament to his relationship with the club – players, staff and supporters – and our ambition that he’s extended his stay. He will be an important player for us moving forward, and provide balance on the left side, as we embrace the challenges ahead of us.”
Lowe’s deal follows the signing of Ricardo Santos and renewal of Liam Cooper, and it’s known that there are other moves in the works as the club’s new owners seek to bolster the ranks ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Barry Bannan’s return is one thing being worked on, as are permanent deals for Sil Swinkels and Tayo Adaramola. Callum Slattery, meanwhile, is a name that The Star reported this week,
