Exclusive: EFL trio consider Max Lowe move as Sheffield Wednesday make fresh offer
Sheffield Wednesday are still hoping to try and keep hold of Max Lowe next season, but face competition from other clubs, The Wednesday Word understands.
Lowe has proven to be an excellent signing for the Owls, with the 29-year-old putting in some strong performances since his move from cross-city rivals, Sheffield United. The left back has played 66 times for the club now – more than any other team in his career.
As has previously been reported by TWW, Lowe is open to the idea of signing a new contract at Hillsborough despite the club’s relegation into League One, and the club’s recent retained list explained that negotiations were underway in order to try and make it happen.
Wednesday have submitted a contract offer to Lowe
It’s understood that Wednesday tabled a fresh offer recently as they look to extend his stay in South Yorkshire, but suggestions are that there’s still work that needs to be done if the two parties are to reach a point that would be agreeable for both.
The likes of Stoke City, Middlesbrough and Leicester City are all believed to have shown an interest in the experienced defender, and it’s unlikely that Lowe will be short of options if a deal isn’t struck with the Owls.
TWW is led to believe that internal discussions have taken place recently in order to assess the recruitment budget for next season in terms of what can be spent on wages and so on, so there is expected to be some progress with those who the club are looking to tie down on longer-term contracts.
Whether they’ll be able to do so with Lowe remains to be seen, but there are now definitely doubts over his future at S6, and the likelihood of him moving on ahead of the 2026/27 season appears to be increasing.
