Goals from Daniel Kanu and Darius Lipsiuc were the difference on Tuesday evening as the Owls fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Magpies, missing out on a chance to climb to the top of the League One table.
Here’s a bit of what both managers had to say:
Martin Paterson
“We’re delighted with that! "We started the season really competitively and then we had a little bump in the road. But tonight, we had a really good win. Even against 11 men I thought we were good for it, and I’m really pleased with my players…
“We did take some risks at the end that I wasn’t quite happy with, but I think the lads should enjoy it tonight before being ready to work on Thursday. It was a big win, but we’re not getting too carried away. We have to stay emotionally controlled to then go again at the weekend…
“I didn’t think the sending off affected the result, we were well deserving of our victory. I am pleaased with the footbal club and for the club, the fans and players. The most important thing is to get everybody fresh and to keep trying to get better.”
Henrik Pedersen
“We all know it’s not good enough tonight, and to win football games in League One, the basic has to be top… Now we have three days to the next game, and we have to recover. Then we have to learn a lot, and we have to learn quickly.
“I think we’re all disappointed with today. This is not the team that we want to be. Normally, I see a group that has a very, very strong mentality, a big commitment and a big togetherness. We will find this again.”
Meanwhile, he said on Jamal Lowe’s red card, ““No complaints… It’s of course not what you need, a red card when you’re 1-0 down, and Jamal knows that.”
