An own goal from Josh Feeney got the ball rolling for the Owls in what was a tough afternoon at London Road, before Ben Woods got the hosts level right after half-time.
The Posh had big periods of pressure over the course of 90 minutes, but the visiting side held firm and sent the away end into delirium as Yan Valery popped up to head home Kieran Morrison’s corner in the 79th minute.
Wednesday have now won four from five as their 2026/27 got underway, and here’s some of what the two managers had to say after a hard-fought clash in Cambridgeshire.
Luke Williams
“I was happy with the performance, but devastated by the result. We didn’t look like a lesser team than Sheffield Wednesday and they are top. I imagine they will be one of the top five in the division, but we created a lot of chances today, certainly more than our opponent.
“We controlled more of the ball and limited them to fewer chances. There was a lot of things I was happy about, but then a lapse of concentration led to the first goal and then a routine corner kick - where everyone is in position - leads to the second goal.
“We haven’t managed to finish the actions with correct contacts and we suffered again.”
Henrik Pedersen
“It’s a good beginning,” he said. “We know things can [change] quick but, for me, I’m really, really proud of the way that we won four out of five, but the culture in our team is strong.
“It’s a big job to find 18 players and to find so many good characters in one transfer window – it’s amazing. And then again fitness – we’ve had a top pre-season but we also got a lot of players after this…
“We need to bring everyone up to level and then we need to have a much, much stronger connection and relationship. We will grow and we will work with this and then we will also grow through the season and be much stronger than we are now.”
