'High expectations...' - Signing number 11 arrives for Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of goalkeeper, Ashley Maynard-Brewer, as predicted by The Wednesday Word.
It’s the second signing in two days for the Owls after they bolstered their goalkeeping department with the arrival of Connal Trueman on Thursday, and the acquisition of Maynard-Brewer is believed to have wrapped up Wednesday’s business between the sticks.
We may see all three goalkeepers feature this coming weekend when two SWFC XIs take on Accrington Stanley (12:30pm) and Oldham Athletic (4:00pm), although that will be up to Henrik Pedersen and his technical team.
AMD has penned a one-year deal at S6 on the back of his Dundee United exit at the end of last season, and will be eager to make a mark as soon as possible in his new home.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 27-year-old Australian U23 international said, “I’m super happy to be here. It seems like a really positive environment. I had a good chat with Darryl Flahavan last week and he just sounded so optimistic about the season.
“I’m really excited about the next few weeks and really getting to work with the guys, they are very welcoming.
“Obviously, with being part of a big club, there’s responsibility that comes with that and the high expectations, which is to get out of this league and get promoted. I can tell already that everyone’s on board with that and working towards that target.”
Meanwhile, Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, has hailed the shot-stopper’s arrival, adding, “At 27, Ash has significant experience playing in the EFL, having spent eight seasons at Charlton Athletic. He has been a part of successful teams - either as a number one or two - and tested himself in different environments through several development loans.
“We believe he will be a great addition to our squad and add important competition to our goalkeeping ranks as we prepare for the challenges ahead.”
