Up close: Sheffield Wednesday launch nostalgic away shirt - and new 'keeper kit

After filming the launch video in Budapest, Sheffield Wednesday have unveiled their 2026/27 away kit.

The Owls returned from their Central European tour a few days ago, and dropped a teaser video that showed fans that - just like in many years before - they will don the colour yellow as their alternate strip for the campaign ahead.

Now it’s been dropped in full, with Wednesday showcasing a pinstriped Umbro shirt very reminiscent of kits of the 1990s. Filming took place at the iconic Szimpla Kert ruin bar in the Hungarian capital.

They said, “Created in partnership with Umbro, the design takes inspiration from the iconic 1992-93 away shirt, reimagined for a new generation of Wednesdayites. The new shirt features a bold yellow and black colourway, combining a classic look from the club’s past with a contemporary Umbro design.

“Made for the road and captured on it, the launch film and photography were shot in Budapest during the Owls’ pre-season tour… Callum Slattery, Max Lowe and Sil Swinkels feature throughout the campaign, which was brought to life by a talented team of Sheffield creatives – Peter & Paul, Pedalo Photography and Oliver Brian Productions.

“The launch follows the recent unveiling of Wednesday’s new 2026-27 home kit and is the latest release from the club’s renewed partnership with Umbro. South Yorkshire broadband and mobile provider Fibrely continue as front-of-shirt partner, alongside sleeve partner Wolf Competitions.

“Paying tribute to one of the club’s most memorable away shirts, the 2026-27 away kit blends Wednesday’s heritage with a modern identity for the season ahead.”
