Sheffield Wednesday boss delivers Barry Bannan verdict as Owls fans raise midfield concerns

Manager Henrik Pedersen has leapt to the defence of Barry Bannan, insisting the mercurial midfielder has played a key role in Sheffield Wednesday’s strong start to the season.

Bannan, a modern-day Wednesday legend, made an emotional return to Hillsborough over the summer following a short spell at Millwall. The Scotland international has started seven of Wednesday’s eight fixtures across all competitions.

However, Bannan has yet to hit top gear this term and came in for criticism from some sections of the fanbase following Saturday’s goalless draw with Wigan Athletic.
