'With a heavy heart' - Sheffield Wednesday man explains why he 'needed' to leave
Departing Sheffield Wednesday coach, Jordan Broadbent, has explained why he felt he needed to leave the Owls for Buxton.
After almost four years at Middlewood Road, climbing up the youth ranks to become the U18s head coach at his boyhood team, Broadbent has moved on from S6 to become the manager of the Bucks in the National League North.
The Wednesday Word reported earlier today that he was the favourite to take over at Silverlands, and this evening it was confirmed that he’d been appointed as John McGrath’s successor.
“I’m excited to be joining Buxton Football Club,” he told the website of his new club. “From the first conversations I had with the owners, it was clear that the club has a strong identity, ambitious plans, and a real desire to keep moving forward.
“The opportunity to work at a club with such a passionate fanbase and strong foundations was one I couldn’t turn down. I believe in creating an environment where players can develop and improve, while also building a team that is competitive, hard-working, and committed to winning football matches.
“Success doesn’t happen overnight, but we’ll work every day to build something that supporters can connect with and be proud of. I can’t wait to meet the players, staff and fans, and get started on what I believe can be an exciting journey for everyone involved with the club.”
Broadbent leaves ‘with a heavy heart’
It wasn’t an easy decision to make, though, and the 39-year-old made a point of thanking those that he’s worked with during his spell in Hillsborough.
Speaking to Wednesday’s website, he said, “It’s a good level and it has long been my dream to go and manage… I’m leaving with a heavy heart because Sheffield Wednesday are my club, since I was a little boy, they have played a massive part in my life.
“Hopefully one day I can be back in some capacity but right now, I need to give this a go… To the group of players I’ve worked with in our academy of the past two/three years, they’ve all been a massive part of my journey.
“I have built some really good connections, I want to wish them every success and will always be there for them.”
