Sheffield Wednesday to announce new arrival - David Storch confirms new gym plans
Sheffield Wednesday co-owner, David Storch, says that Simon Wilson's arrival at the club will be announced on Monday.
The Wednesday Word first reported the Owls’ interest in bringing the former Stockport County man on board weeks ago, and recently explained that his appointment was now imminent after he was spotted at Hillsborough.
Now, with the start of the transfer window upon us, Storch has explained that Wilson will be getting to work in the coming days, but also outlined some other bits of work that are going on behind the scenes at Wednesday.
The American businessman was speaking during an impromptu appearance at the unveiling of a headstone for Ambrose Langley, who was the first Owls captain after their move to Hillsborough, and he spoke glowingly once again about his love for the club and what it stands for.
Storch addressed the crowd that attended the unveiling - which Sheff Cam recorded - and explained that a new gym would be being built, and that Wilson’s arrival wouldn’t be the last at the club’s top table.
“We have a lot of tasks in front of us right now rebuilding this club,” he said. “This club was, as you know, not in great shape. We’re working on building an infrastructure organisationally, and we’ve hired a great CEO - he’s phenomenal… He’s hired a Sporting Director, who I think we’re announcing tomorrow. He’s also top drawer, he was the CEO of Stockport, and he’s just a really good dude - Simon Wilson is his name.
Simon Wilson won’t be the only new face
“We’ll also have a new senior head of all Comms, we have a new Finance Director coming in, so yeah - we’re building an infrastructure organisationally. And we’re going to do the best we can to put the best team that we can on the pitch this season.
“We know at the end of the day we can make Hillsborough the greatest stadium ever, but if we can’t compete on the pitch then it really doesn’t make much of a difference. So we’re very focused on that, it’s our top priority, but at the same time we’re build infrastructure around Hillsborough and Middlewood Road.
“Middlewood Road needs a lot of work. There’s not a proper gym for the players to work out in. I own a gym back in South Florida, I understand the equipment that’s needed to train professional athletes, so we’ve gone ahead and purchased a portable building because there’s no place there to build a proper training facility. That will be in place in the next 30 days.”
