Why Sheffield Wednesday boss was delighted at Coventry City - and the reason for Dominic Iorfa's absence
Sheffield Wednesday upset the odds on Saturday afternoon as they held promotion-hopefuls, Coventry City, to a 0-0 draw.
The Owls were serious underdogs as they headed to the CBS Arena, but battled their way to a point in Coventry and stopped Frank Lampard’s side from confirming their place in the Premier League for next season.
Henrik Pedersen was understandably pleased with the way his side acquitted themselves, and he was especially pleased that they created chances of their own against the league leaders.
“I’m very, very proud,” he told Radio Sheffield. “We knew that it would be a very, very difficult game to play against the absolute best team in the league, they’re so well organised. With his team Frank has done a fantastic job here, so we knew it’d be difficult,.
“But I’m proud once again to see how the boys went out onto the pitch with a big belief, with a big, big discipline, and how we defended today was amazing… But we also created chances after the high press, on the offensive transition, and we had one after a build-up. So it was a strong performance.”
Dominic Iorfa was missing
Meanwhile, on the injury and availability front, the Dane explained the decisions to take off both Svante Ingelsson and Tayo Adaramola in the second half, while Dominic Iorfa missed out following the birth of another child this week.
Also to Radio Sheffield, Pedersen said, “Svante’s knee is not good, he’s not trained very much before the game because he has some problems. He said at half time that maybe he could do only five or six minutes, so after 15 we changed… Tayo has some hips that are very tired.”
