The Owls are making efforts to give several of their young players the chance to play senior football as they continue their development towards professional football, with the likes of Devlan Moses, Logan Stretch and Joe Emery just some of the players who have headed out in recent months.
Now that list has seen newly-signed full back, Louis Poland, as well as second-year scholar, Reuben Selby, added to it, with the pair having joined Stocksbridge on short-term deals. Selby, it’s understood, has made the move on a work experience contract - Poland’s move is for one month.
“Stocksbridge Park Steels have signed Louis Poland and Reuben Selby on loan from Sheffield Wednesday,” the Northern Premier League Division One East side said.
“Poland, a left-back, came through the Everton academy before signing with the Owls this summer where he has featured for the U21s.
“Selby is a young defender entering the second year of his scholarship with Wednesday. Both could feature in today’s match against Matlock Town.”
Poland - who spent most of his young career on Merseyside - is predominantly a left back, while Selby can play in the same position or as a left-sided centre-back. The pair will be hoping to gain plenty of experience in their time away from academy football.
