A new chapter begins today at Sheffield Wednesday following the appointment of Dave Challinor as their new manager.
Challinor watched on from the directors’ box as the Owls secured a hard-fought draw at home to Blackpool yesterday.
It is Challinor’s first managerial role since leaving Stockport County last summer. The 51-year-old guided the Hatters from the National League and to the League Two title within three seasons - and twice took them to the League One play-offs.
The Wednesday Word caught up with journalist Sam Byrne, who covered and reported on Challinor’s time at Edgeley Park for the Manchester Evening News, to get the inside track on Wednesday’s new boss.
What can Owls fans expect from a Dave Challinor team?
SB: He was very flexible in his five years in charge at Stockport. He likes a certain shape and to play with a back three. He likes his wing-backs to get up and down and do both sides of the job.
He’s a winner and is prepared to grind out results. We all know he has an excellent record in terms of promotions and finishing in the play-offs, but even just game to game, he’s a winner and will look to grind out results.
