'How we hunted...' - Sheffield Wednesday boss assesses Middlesbrough defeat
Henrik Pedersen wasn't too discouraged by his side's display as Sheffield Wednesday were beaten by Middlesbrough.
A first-half goal from Morgan Whittaker handed the hosts victory as Wednesday went 38 games without a win this evening, with the attacker pouncing on a mistake from Gabriel Otegbayo before rolling into an empty net.
The Owls had their moments in the tie, with a change in setup and the introduction of Will Grainger giving the side a bit of impetus, but it wasn’t to be as Pedersen’s men continued their long wait for a win.
In terms of their efforts, though, the Dane was pretty pleased.
“How we hunted the 1-1, how we pressed…”
“I think we had a strong performance today,” he told Radio Sheffield. We started really well, we were well organised and strong on the ball - until Gab made a backpass to Murphy. After that we had a difficult period, but we closed the first half in a good way.
“Then, in the second half, for the first 10 minutes they had the ball more or less all the time, but after we changed the formation at 60 minutes I thought the last 30 minutes we were strong. How we hunted the 1-1, how we pressed and how we were on the ball… The last pass, the last cross, was lacking. Overall, though, a strong performance.”
Wednesday now have two more chances to claw their way back to zero points from their current position on -3, starting with a trip to Oxford United on Saturday afternoon.
