The Owls take on Cambridge United on Tuesday night for what will be the first game of the post-Henrik Pedersen era at Hillsborough, and they’re hoping for another big crowd as they offer kid-for-a-quid tickets and £7 for under 18s. There’s a milestone they’re looking to achieve.

Crowds of over 30,000 people attended all of Wednesday’s last six home games, with West Brom (33,750), Bradford City (33,188), Bromley (30,006), Wigan Athletic (30,725), Stockport County (32,390) and AFC Wimbledon (30,477) seeing 30k+ attend consecutively for the first time since 1991.
Prior to that campaign, the last time Wednesday posted six consecutive games with over 30,000 people was back in 1956 when they took on Chelsea (36,543), Newcastle United (36,270), Cardiff City (38,721), Arsenal (40,629), Sunderland (33,423), and the biggest of them all, Blackpool (46,539). Interestingly, exactly 35 years separates 1991 from 1956, just as it separates 2026 from 1991.
Achieving seven in a row with a Tuesday night game against Cambridge won’t be easy, but if they can pull it off then Wednesdayites will do something that hasn’t been achieved since back in the early 1950s… That record is unlikely to be beaten anytime soon, however, with Wednesdayites hitting 30k+ 28 times in a row between April 1952 and September 1953. It could be a long time until we see those sort of numbers again.
Wednesday are boasting Premier League-level attendances so far this season, filling out away ends up and down the country as well… They’ll now be hoping that performances on the pitch can match their own efforts off of it.
