Sheffield Wednesday injuries: Trio update and numerous boosts before Coventry City clash
Sheffield Wednesday don't have any fresh injury concerns as they prepare to face Coventry City this weekend.
The Owls have a difficult afternoon ahead of them on Sunday as they go up against the table-topping Sky Blues, so it’ll come as a great relief to Henrik Pedersen that there were no new problems picked up over the Easter Weekend.
Liam Palmer and Max Lowe both pushed through the pain and fatigue barrier in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City, but they’ve made a full recovery in time to face Coventry. Nathaniel Chalobah is also in good shape, too.
It’s now up to the Wednesday boss to make decisions on who starts at the CBS Arena, with the Dane potentially tempted to mix things up after tough games against Stoke City and the Foxes.
Updates on Liam Palmer, Max Lowe and Co.
Pedersen told the media, “Liam is fine, he trained normally today - he’s on top again. Max should’ve played 60, but he played 90, he was very tired but there were no problems. That’s a big positive.
“It was also positive with Chalobah, there were no complications with him after the game… It was good to see George back (for the U21s), but it was clear that he’d been out for a while! He worked really well, and it was lovely to see him back on the pitch. We’re looking forward to the next steps now - we want to integrate him when it’s without risk, and when we feel he can make the next steps.
“Ernie Weaver is doing really well with running, Di’Shon (Bernard) is also doing really well - he was on the grass today and touching the ball a little bit as well. So that’s very positive. I think step-by-step we’re getting better and better.”
Joel Ndala’s future
Meanwhile, regarding Joel Ndala amid considerations over his future at the club following some time-keeping issues, Pedersen explained that the main task right now is getting him fit again. He did, however, admit that conversations have been had internally about the way forward.
“He’s still out with his hamstring,” he said. “And we hope that he will train on Monday again. We have spoken internally about what’s happened, and for Joel right now it’s about getting him fit again so that he can train well again. Then we’ll take it from there.”
