‘Devastated’ Sheffield Wednesday talent faces months out after surgery
Talented young Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, James Kay, faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a foot injury that required surgery.

The 17-year-old, who has spent time training with the Owls’ first team and made an appearance on their bench earlier this year, is highly rated at Middlewood Road, and has been earmarked as one to watch for the future.
Unfortunately for him, however, he will miss out on any senior opportunities that may have come his way during the current preseason, with the versatile youngster having undergone a successful operation that The Wednesday Word expects to keep him out of action for a few months.
Successful surgery
Taking to social media from hospital, the talented teen said, “Devastated to be facing another setback after a tough past few months with injury… Surgery was successful, now onto coming back fitter and stronger.”
Kay, who has played as a centre back, defensive midfielder and in centre midfield over the course of his youth career, is entering into the final year of his scholarship at S6 and will be desperate to come back strongly later this year as he makes his bid for a first professional deal at his boyhood club.
Wednesday’s U18s and U21s are currently training at the Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park as they prepare for the campaign ahead, and the former were beaten 4-0 by Doncaster Rovers in a friendly encounter on Tuesday afternoon – though are believed to have been missing many of their first-choice players.
