Davis Keillor-Dunn opened the scoring for the Owls at Hillsborough hours after it was announced that Dave Challinor would be taking over as manager of the club, but they weren’t able to hold on with 10 men after Sil Swinkels’ dismissal and Jerry Yates managed to level things up late in the day.
“I’m disappointed we didn’t win the game,” Matt Hamshaw said afterwards. “We should have won the game. It gives the group a lot of belief over what we can be.”
On the injury front, there’s mixed news in terms of timelines. Billy Mitchell could miss the next couple of weeks after picking up an injury on Tuesday, while Ali Al-Hamadi may be missing for ‘a number of weeks’ after his latest setback. As for Reece James, he could miss over a month after suffering a groin injury.
Meanwhile, on Challinor’s appointment, ‘Hammy’ added, “He’s coming to an amazing club. He’s a good bloke and he’s a good manager. He’s going to enjoy it. I think this club can achieve things under this ownership group. He has won a lot of games over the years. Tactically he’s very good.”
More news on Challinor is expected on Monday, with the expectation that he’ll bring former Stockport County assistant, Clint Hill, in with him to be his assistant.
