Their recruitment team has effectively built a brand-new squad from scratch in the past three months.
Sporting director Simon Wilson warned Wednesdayites when he arrived in mid-June that it could be a “messy” transfer window given the scale of the rebuild and the time required to give manager Henrik Pedersen the tools to turn the club’s fortunes around. Eighteen new faces later - once David Keillor‑Dunn’s loan move is completed - Wednesday have undergone a radical overhaul – blending youth, experience and long‑term planning into a squad that looks markedly different from the one that limped through last season.
“Success will require patience, consistency and alignment,” stressed Wilson. “We are not looking for quick fixes, but to build a football operation capable of delivering sustainable success over the long term.”
All of this has taken place under recruitment restrictions agreed with the English Football League as part of the club’s exit from administration. Wilson, transfer chief Kevin Beadell and Pedersen have worked collaboratively on incomings and outgoings, with notable departures including Pierce Charles and Svante Ingelsson.
