Major hurdles cleared as Sheffield Wednesday takeover on track ahead of season finale
All the signs are positive around the takeover of Sheffield Wednesday ahead of this weekend’s season finale against West Bromwich Albion.
The Wednesday Word reported earlier this week that things were looking good for David Storch and his Arise consortium as they sought to take control of the Owls before the end of the 2025/26 campaign, and that remains the case as D-day approaches.
Insiders have suggested that most major hurdles have now been cleared as the process continues, and that those involved are hopeful of being able to announce something tomorrow if all continues to go to plan. The way it’s been described to TWW is that ‘with every passing hour, things are looking better’.
Club legends set to be in attendance
It’s understood that Arise are eager to lean into the nostalgia of Wednesday if and when they do finalise their takeover of the club, hence the planned return to the old Owl - and that club legends have been recruited to take part in the festivities on completion.
Keen to hit the ground running, lots of work has been going on behind the scenes in order to enact change at a football club that so desperately needs it, with David Bruce being lined up as the new Chief Executive Officer, and plans being put in place across the board. Conversations over a Sporting Director are ongoing, as are discussions with the English Football League.
As previously reported by The Star, there have been notable changes to the Megastore in Hillsborough and regarding the products available on club’s online store… TWW is of the understanding that Wednesdayites are set to see a different brand adorning their official merchandise in 2026/27 should the takeover go through.
Both David and Michael Storch are expected to arrive in Sheffield today as they seek to tie things up in terms of Arise’s purchase, with Tom Costin and Bruce both expected at the sell-out clash against West Brom on Saturday.
The game is set to see the biggest Championship crowd of the season as tens of thousands make their way to S6, and it’s looking increasingly likely that they’re going to have plenty to smile about as a new dawn awaits their beleaguered and beloved club.
