An absolute rock and safe hands: Sheffield Wednesday’s top statistical performers vs Wigan

Sheffield Wednesday weren’t able to beat Wigan Athletic at the weekend, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some good performances out there.

Both sides had chances, but the second half was more drab than the first and ultimately it was probably fair the spoils were shared between the Owls and the Latics… Wednesday will have been disappointed not to get more from a team who were sat bottom of League One, but there were also some positives to take as they claimed their first clean sheet.

Wigan left back, Jon Mellish, was WhoScored’s highest-rated player with a score of 7.4 on the day, with his clearances (7) and 100% tackle success rate among the stats that saw him come out on top.

For the hosts, meanwhile, there were three players who weren’t too far behind him statistically - and it’ll be no surprise that none of them were attackers…
