Sheffield Wednesday transfer and injury latest as the Owls chase more signings

Sheffield Wednesday remain in the hunt for reinforcements with just a week left of the summer transfer window.

Ali Al‑Hamadi is on the brink of becoming the Owls’ 16th signing, with the Iraq international set to join on a season‑long loan from Ipswich Town. He was even spotted in Wednesday kit posing for photos with supporters before the Carabao Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and sat in the club’s Director’s Box.

Despite a busy summer at Hillsborough, boss Henrik Pedersen has confirmed the Owls are still keen to bring more quality through the door.

Pedersen told the media, “I would expect there will be more. It’s not the number of players; it’s the quality of players. With the restrictions we have, it’s natural there will not be many because we don’t have the money for this but I’m sure we can do a little bit more in the market.”

When quizzed on what positions he wants to strengthen, the Owls boss said, “Let’s see. We have a meeting tomorrow, and we will evaluate where we are right now. We have a list of different positions.”

The Dane is optimistic there will be no player exits as he seeks to build a squad capable of challenging in the upper reaches of League One.

Centre-back, Sil Swinkels, is an injury concern ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Bromley. He was forced off in the closing stages of their 2-0 defeat to Wolves with a hamstring problem.

Leeds United loanee, Harry Gray, will be assessed after suffering a nasty facial wound, though Pedersen says there’s no immediate concussion concern. Blood was pouring from Gray’s face before he was ushered down the tunnel.

Liam Cooper, meanwhile, is edging closer to a first-team return, having resumed full training. Key man Callum Slattery was rested, while Sean Fusire is believed to have a knock that has kept him out of contention but isn’t thought to be overly serious.

There is, however, disappointing news for Jordi Liongola, with the wideman being out of action ‘for more weeks’ with an injury that he has sustained.
