Exclusive: ‘The sky’s the limit’ - Will Grainger opens up as he looks to a brighter Sheffield Wednesday future

Will Grainger smiles as he adjusts his propped-up phone. He’s in red, rather than Sheffield Wednesday’s blue and white, but fans will forgive the colours on this occasion.

The 17-year-old is away with Wales U19s as he talks to The Wednesday Word, and – just like at club level – he’s playing further up the age tiers than he probably should be. In the past two years he’s gone from banging in goals alongside Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri for the U18s, to finding form for the U21s, to scoring his first senior goal for his boyhood club.

At every turn he’s technically been too young to do what he’s doing. Add in his time away with his national team, and he’s barely had a chance to take it all in.
