Details as Sheffield Wednesday agree sale of Svante Ingelsson to Stoke City
Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a deal with Stoke City over the transfer of Svante Ingelsson in a transfer that could exceed £1m.
Stoke’s interest in the Swede is nothing new, with the Potters having maintained their desire to bring him on board for a number of months. Now, with the 2026/27 just around the corner, it has emerged that they’ve got their wish.
The news will come as a blow to Henrik Pedersen, who will now be left to look for another role to fill in his squad, but it’s not been through lack of trying as several attempts were made to extend his contract on top of the option that was exercised at the end of last season.
Ingelsson wanted the Championship
The renewal process is understood to have been impacted by the financial constraints that are in place at Hillsborough, as well as the fact that the 28-year-old was eager to continue his career in the Championship.
With that in mind, Wednesday sought to act proactively in order to protect the value of the player, and after amicable discussions between all of the involved parties it was decided that a sale was the best way forward.
The collaborative nature of the discussions - which included the player, his representatives and the two clubs, has enabled Wednesday to act quickly and continue their own rebuild with clarity.
Ingelsson played 79 times for the Owls, picking up two goals and five assists along the way. He’ll be remembered fondly for his efforts in the horrible 2025/26 campaign that saw him win the club’s Player of the Season award.

Decent player ideal for L1 but we move on can’t win em all 💙
It’s a shame, but if he’s not extending his contract, then the club have no other choice.
