What is 'The Wednesday Word'?
Thanks for coming, here's a bit about what I'm trying to achieve.
I’d imagine that none of you have ended up here by accident… So you already know that I’m a massive Sheffield Wednesday fan, and that I happen to have been lucky enough to cover my football club professionally for many years now. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly.
Now, after almost six years with The Star, I’ve decided to take the plunge and go it alone.
What I’m building here is something simple… A proper Wednesday space for proper Wednesday fans. A place where you can get your Owls fix however you like - whether that’s long-form writing, breaking news, video shorts, YouTube interviews, or anything in between.
I’m a Wednesdayite first and foremost, and my aim is to create the kind of platform that I’d want to be part of myself. The platform might be new, but the passion isn’t - and neither is the little black book of contacts built up over the last few years.
I want to sail my own ship, and spend time creating insightful and informative SWFC content that you won’t be able to find elsewhere… That desire is how The Wednesday Word was born.
The mission is straightforward - to bring you honest, reliable Sheffield Wednesday coverage on a clean, ad-free site that’s built for fans. News and updates delivered straight to your inbox, alongside deeper reads, video content, interviews, and much more.
Some of it will always be free. Some will sit behind a small paywall. But this is now my full-time job, and if this project is going to thrive, it will be because of the support of you guys.
For the price of a fiver a month, you won’t just be subscribing to a website - you’ll be helping fund the entire project: the reporting, the videos, the interviews, the time spent chasing stories and speaking to the people around the club.
And for what it’s worth, I’ve got no plans to start bumping the price up either…
So if you’ve enjoyed my work over the years, I’d genuinely love for you to come along for the ride. After all, we’re all Wednesday, aren’t we?

Subscribed - Sometimes feel like the biggest barrier to the Star SWFC writers is the site and ad structure itself.
Best of luck Joe.
