Yeah, it’s him - A message from potential new Sheffield Wednesday owner
Sheffield Wednesday’s potential new owner took to social media last week, and it got people talking.
David Storch and his consortium - which also includes his son, Michael, as well as Tom Costin – are in the process of trying to buy the Owls after being granted preferred bidder status, and they’re saying all the right things.
Comments from Storch Snr in an interview with Radio Sheffield were received impeccably as he spoke of a brighter future for the Owls, and for many Wednesdayites there really does seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel now. Finally.
His arrival on Twitter on Saturday turned some heads, too, with the American speaking glowingly about his time in South Yorkshire and praising those that he was in contact with while there. It was the first post from ‘StorchyOwl’, and it read as follows:
“Back in the States now, reflecting on an unbelievable week in Sheffield…. On behalf of Michael, Tom and myself, I want to thank the wonderful city of Sheffield, the local members of the community we met, the Supporters’ Trust and the Sheffield Wednesday fans for making us feel so incredibly welcome.
“We are listening to and collaborating with talented Wednesdayites across the city to ensure we deliver a best-in-class fan experience. Whilst we continue to work diligently to become stewards of this unique and historic club, please know that we will be doing everything we can in the interest of a “Better Wednesday” and a brighter future for everyone associated with Sheffield Wednesday. See you soon! David.”
Several fans questioned whether the account – which follows only SWFC and the Premier League – was really his, with many seeing this kind of communication after the Dejphon Chansiri period being too good to be true.
As also reported elsewhere, though, The Wednesday can confirm that ‘StorchyOwl’ is exactly who he says he is, so fans can probably expect to see more from him in the coming weeks and months. They’ll be hoping at some point that one of his future posts involves words similar to ‘done’ and ‘deal’.
