The way that Dejphon Chansiri handled contracts at Hillsborough was largely - and rightly - bemoaned, and led to the loss of young talents, genuine assets and ultimately millions of pounds over the course of his time at the helm of the Owls.
Time and time again, players would leave at the end of their contracts for nothing, with Chansiri having rejected bids without opening up talks to improve their current deals, leaving many players feeling frustrated, undervalued or both… Youngsters would move on because no attempt was made to secure their futures until it was too late.

With Davis Keillor-Dunn coming in as signing number 18, completing the set for the Owls, Wilson hasn’t really had much time to settle into his new role as Sporting Director of the club. He estimates that, including the club exits and the U21 deals, there have been around 40 that he’s had to work on… That’s almost one every three days.
That will no longer be the case at S6.
Speaking to The Wednesday Word last week, the club’s Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, was asked if decisions such as the early contract offers to Ernie Weaver, George Brown and others was something that fans could get used to.
Wednesdayites will like his answer, but the former Stockport County man explained that things aren’t always straightforward - with one player having asked to put his talks on hold for the time being.
