“Sheffield Wednesday Football Club confirms that Henrik Pedersen has left the club with immediate effect,” a statement read.
“Henrik led the first team through an exceptional period in the club’s history, providing stability and leadership during a time of significant uncertainty and change.
“The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Henrik for his contribution and wishes him every success in the future… Matt Hamshaw will take interim charge of the first team while the club undertakes the process of appointing its next Head Coach. The club will provide further updates when appropriate.”
The club’s Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, said of the decision, “First and foremost, I want to thank Henrik for his professionalism, commitment and contribution during an exceptionally challenging period for Sheffield Wednesday.
“We knew the start of this season would be difficult due to the scale of change across the club, but our expectation was always that we would develop as the season progressed, establishing a recognisable style of play and greater consistency in our performances.
“Although we have accumulated points, we haven’t seen enough progress in those areas. We believe making a change now gives us the best opportunity to establish those foundations and build towards the second half of the season and beyond.
“We remain ambitious about what we can achieve this campaign, and our focus remains on building a Sheffield Wednesday team with a clear identity, capable of delivering sustained improvement and long-term success.”

Really sad for him, a lovely guy who gave it his all, clearly loves the club and city, and stuck with us and kept the lads’ heads up during our lowest point. Hope in time we can remember him fondly for that and his tears of happiness in the tunnel when he found out we’d have no points deduction. We should always be grateful to him and I hope he’ll always feel welcome at Hillsborough in future. Think this had to happen though, we couldn’t carry on the way we were. Interested to see what happens next. Don’t get the Challinor obsession and not a fan of the way he’s been pimping himself out for the job when HP was still in the role - not a good look IMO. Would like to think we can do better than him given everything we’ve got going for us with Storch and the gang now. Onwards and upwards.
A lot of the same people defending Pederson are the same ones who defended Chansiri right until the end and shot down those of us who saw what needed to be done way before the rest! Performances simply haven’t been good enough, no style of play whatsoever right from the start of pre season until now! This is the correct decision 🦉
