It’s safe to say that you won’t have missed the fact that Henrik Pedersen has departed his position as manager of the Owls, with Matt Hamshaw taking over on an interim basis. What you might have missed, however, is how things played out - we did an article on that for you.
In the youth setup, Wednesday’s U18s picked up another victory as they came from behind to beat Wigan Athletic 3-1. Harry Chadbourne, Logan Scott and Dennis Kohn got the goals, with the latter doing so as he made a long-awaited return from injury. The talented James Kay also got his first start since recovering from surgery.
Meanwhile, away from the field, Wednesday have picked up another couple of new sponsors, with Village Hotels’ name now on the club’s training kit and Procure Smart coming on board as a new partner.
Welcome to Sheffield Wednesday Mondays…
We had news on Ernie Weaver, who was set to go out on loan before an injury to Di’Shon Bernard saw his move cancelled at the 11th hour… Bernard’s injury, thankfully, appears to be nothing to be too worried about.
There was a long interview with Benito Carbone as he opened up on his Owls exit in the 1990s and his love for the club - you can also watch that one if you prefer.
I ‘broke something’ at Sheffield Wednesday: Benito Carbone’s Owls apology and an English dream
‘Benny’ smiles as he adjusts his camera. The number eight has been my lucky number since I was about six years old, and the man now looking out from my laptop screen is the reason why. When he first took to the field in blue and white I remember being mesmerised by him, everything about him just seemed exciting.
On the injury front we ran a comprehensive update on the status of the club’s availability ahead of their game against Doncaster Rovers, and we also introduced The Wednesday Word Stats - a brand new Owls resource that’s free to use for you guys.
Liam Cooper fronted up after the Rovers defeat, and spoke a few excellent home truths after a lacklustre display. It’s worth checking out what he had to say.
Lastly, with the news that Pedersen had been fired, we put together an emergency episode of The Wednesday Word Show to answer as many of your questions as we could, and you can find that below.
And that’s that for this Sheffield Wednesday Mondays! We’ll be doing a new one every week to make sure you can see our best work, and if you want to uncheck the other sections, then feel free to do so…
The Wednesday Word is a reader-supported publication. To support our work, please consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. We currently have a special running on annual subscriptions.
