There’s only one place to start, of course, but we’d be very surprised if Dave Challinor being appointed as the new manager of the Owls is something that you’ve missed!
We’ve had some bad news on the injury front for a few players, tickets for the FA Cup clash at Oldham Athletic sold out, and The Wednesday Word understands that Reuben Lawal’s youth loan from Brentford has been cut short.
Elsewhere on the loan front, Fortune Onoh and Sam Duruh joined Beverley Town and made their debuts in the starting XI in a defeat to Blyth Spartans, while Kailen Hatfield headed out to Stalybridge Celtic. All three have gone for the next month.
We’re expecting Clint Hill to come in to assist Challinor, just as he did at Stockport County, but there haven’t been any suggestions just yet that any of the current staff members will be on the move.
Fans had expected to hear from the club with more information on the new boss on Monday, but it’s understood that that’s now expected on Tuesday instead…
Anyway, here’s your Sheffield Wednesday Mondays wrap…
Wednesday did something that hasn’t been done since 1953 last month as they made it seven league games with a 30k crowd (it’s now eight), and we looked at some of the numbers from yesteryear.
We had all the fallout from the Cambridge United game, and Henrik Pedersen spoke for the first time since his departure from Hillsborough was announced.
Matt Hamshaw explained to us how he’d invited the Dane back in to say his goodbyes, and we also announced details of our first-ever Wednesday Word LIVE event - you can book your spot here.
For more on Challinor, we spoke to a few people who know him well - Carlton Palmer, Stockport journalist Sam Byrne, and Wednesdayite Rich Fidler who played with him at youth level. You can find the latter one below.
Getting to know ‘long throw king’ Dave Challinor - from a Sheffield Wednesday fan who played with him
To have seven promotions on his CV after 16 years is a stellar achievement. He knows what it takes to be successful in League One, having guided Stockport County to back-to-back third-placed finishes.
